Sink stopper not sealing.

A sink stopper mechanism isn t difficult to understand. If a sink won t hold water look up behind the sink with a flashlight if needed to identify the following parts. If your bath clicker drain is not clicking or sealing properly refer to the following troubleshooting information. Remove the old seal and slip on a new one if needed.

Inspect the rubber seal on the bottom of the stopper head. If it s still in good condition you can reuse it. Clear the stopper and rocker arm of hair and debris. Simply remove the plunger clean and if necessary replace.

The lever hooks onto the stopper through a hole or hook on the bottom of a long plastic flange that s attached to the stopper. A sink stopper with a push pull rod control at the faucet is a great modern convenience. Move the linkage up or down to a different hole to adjust the stopper movement. A seal made with plumber s putty may fail down the road if the putty becomes brittle and it cracks apart allowing water to pass through the seal.

When they do they are often unsightly and an irritation. Simply grip the stopper body and pull it out of the drain along with the hinged rocker arm. Start with the stopper on the clicker mechanism and make sure it is tightened down all the way. The left photo fig.

Remove the clip that holds the link in place by squeezing the clip ends together. When you push or pull on the lift rod it activates a lever the extends through the drain tailpiece. This is a repair you can do yourself. Putty installation when you are installing a sink drain and decide to use plumber s putty you must wrap the putty around the sink s drain opening before you install the drain body.

Make sure the flange is tightly. Find replacement parts on amazon. Lift the stopper out of the drain. Reinstall the stopper and rocker arm.
